Verizon Innovative Learning Grant

HCC has been awarded a grant through the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship and the Verizon Foundation. This summer, for 3 weeks, we will offer full day camps to middle school girls from rural areas that concentrate on STEM and Entrepreneurship.

I am currently working to recruit about 70 more girls into the program (the grant calls for 100). I am hoping that you may be able to get this information into the correct hands so we can serve as many girls as possible. If you have students that are interested, please have them register at https://nacce.site-ym.com/page/Verizon18RegForm or they can complete and return the attached application.

VERIZON INNOVATIVE LEARNING SCHOLARSHIP
This summer, Hillsborough Community College will join Verizon Innovative Learning, the education initiative of the Verizon Foundation, through NAACE to introduce more girls, especially those in rural parts of the country, to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills. Kicking off this summer with a three-week intensive learning experience, 100 girls from local middle schools across the Wimauma area will attend courses at HCC SouthShore Campus in augmented and virtual reality, coding, 3D design, entrepreneurship and design thinking principles. Following the summer, the students will participate in monthly sessions throughout the academic year where they will develop a technology solution for a community problem that aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
